In short: Diffdeck compares your files entirely on your own device. It has no account system, collects no personal information, and never uploads the contents of your files anywhere.
Who this policy covers
This policy describes how the Diffdeck desktop application handles information. Diffdeck is published by IAM_DEV. If you have a question about anything below, write to support@iamdev.me.
Information we do not collect
Diffdeck does not collect personal information. Specifically, it does not ask for or record:
- Your name, email address, phone number or postal address
- An account, username or password — there is no sign-in of any kind
- The contents of the files you compare
- Analytics, usage statistics, advertising identifiers or crash telemetry
- Your location
Your files
When you choose two files, Diffdeck reads them from your disk, compares them in memory on your device, and displays the result. The contents of your files are never transmitted off your device, and no copy of them is created except when you explicitly export a report to a folder you choose yourself.
Diffdeck does not modify the files you compare. It only reads them.
What is stored on your device
Diffdeck keeps a small database in your user folder so the app remembers your setup between sessions. It contains:
- Your preferences — such as the interface language and your comparison options.
- Recent comparisons — for each comparison you run, the names and locations of the two files and the number of changes found, so you can reopen it quickly. The contents of those files are not stored. This list is capped and you can erase it at any time from the recent comparisons window.
This data stays on your computer. It is not synchronised, backed up to us or shared with anyone. Removing the application removes your access to it, and you can delete the Diffdeck folder in your user directory to erase it outright.
Network access
Diffdeck does not require an internet connection to compare files, and it does not send your data anywhere. The application communicates only within your own computer, between its own interface and its own local component.
If you follow a link from inside the application — to this website, to contact support, or to leave a rating — your system's default browser or Store application opens it, and the privacy policy of that destination applies from that point on.
Exported reports
When you export a comparison, the report contains the parts of your files that the comparison covers. The file is written only to the folder you select and stays under your control. Consider its contents before sharing it with anyone else.
Children
Diffdeck is a general-purpose utility. It is not directed at children and it collects no personal information from anyone, regardless of age.
Purchases
Diffdeck is distributed through the Microsoft Store. Any purchase is handled entirely by Microsoft, under Microsoft's own privacy policy. We do not receive or store your payment details.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be published on this page with a new date at the top. Continuing to use Diffdeck after a change means you accept the updated policy.
